The James Taylor Quartet
23 February 2012 7:30 PM
Pavilion Arts Centre
James Taylor – one of the great British instrumentalists of his generation – has taken his trademark howling Hammond sound to the masses for over 25 years; with his Quartet still famed for its upbeat, energetic live shows … with no signs of slowing down. The band’s relentlessly entertaining tunes take inspiration from the rare-groove style funk, and boogaloo funk of the 60s and 70s and the band is, without a doubt, one of the most important jazz-pop crossover outfits in British live musical history today. One of the most exciting and well respected touring bands in the UK, the JTQ’s recorded output touches genres as diverse as jazz, funk, soul, rock, and even rap. Each album is an absolute must for any Hammond fan: James’ playing providing a solid and accomplished lead as always. Live, the band is explosive, with a breathtaking, diverse unmatched back catalogue. Read more about this event … or

John Otway Big Band
24 February 2012 8:00 PM
Pavilion Arts Centre
Four Four Time 2012
Rock veteran John Otway dubbed himself ‘rock’n’roll’s greatest failure’ after many unsuccessful attempts to produce a second hit single to follow his 1977 classic (Cor Baby, That’s) Really Free with Wild Willy Barrett. However, a mere quarter century later, he was back on Top of The Pops with the wonderful disco pastiche, Bunsen Burner and back in the charts as a birthday present from his adoring and patient fans. More recently, his ‘Beware Of The Flowers Cause I’m Sure They’re Going To Get You Yeah’ was voted the seventh greatest lyric of all time in a BBC poll. Read more about this event … or
