Martin Taylor’s Spirit of Django

If you can imagine the ideal soundtrack to driving through the scented country roads of France on a hot lazy summer’s day then it would be the music of Martin Taylor’s Spirit of Django. To mark the 100th Anniversary of the birth of one of the founders of European jazz, Django Reinhardt, Martin Taylor has reformed his award winning group Spirit of Django after a 15-year hiatus for a new album & tour.
Martin Taylor first came to prominence in the 70s through his work with violinist Stephane Grappelli and has gone on to collaborate with artists as diverse as Jeff Beck, Jamie Cullum, Bill Wyman and Bryn Terfel. Now he teams up with Jack Emblow (accordion), Alan Barnes (saxes), Alison Burns (vocals), John Goldie (guitar), James Taylor (percussion) and Terry Gregory (bass) for this great celebration of a musical great. Terry Lightfoot’s Jazzmen

Buxton Opera House welcomes back legendary international jazz clarinettist Terry Lightfoot, his highly talented vocalist daughter Melinda and his all-star jazzband. The show takes the audience on a musical journey from the early days of jazz in the wonderful city of New Orleans, through the hits of such giants of the genre as Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Louis Prima, Duke Ellington, and many more, and finally salutes the talents of great entertainers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Hoagy Carmichael and Nora Jones. An absolute treat for lovers of jazz and swing alike, who like their music high-energy, interspersed with sensitive treatments of some unforgettable 20th century jazz melodies. Brubecks Play Brubeck

For over fifty years, Dave Brubeck has been a giant of American jazz, exciting millions of fans with his inimitable improvisation and rhythms. He changed the landscape of jazz in the 1950s and 1960s, broadening its scope and audience and recording the first jazz instrumental album to go gold.
Now, in their father’s 90th year, his sons, Darius, Chris and Dan are joined by special guest saxophonist Dave O’Higgins. They have come together to play the music that made him a revered icon of modern jazz. The show includes famous Brubeck originals as well as standard tunes associated with Dave and a few of their own popular compositions.
Darius, the eldest Brubeck son, is a jazz pianist, composer; Chris, a multi-instrumentalist and award-winning composer; Dan is a renowned, Grammy-nominated percussionist. In the 70s and 80s the three brothers recorded and toured worldwide with Dave as Two Generations of Brubeck and The New Brubeck Quartet. Read more about this event … or
