Eddi Reader
25 May 7:30 PM
Love Is The Way
Eddi Reader, one of the UK’s most thrilling and affecting performers, returns to Buxton with songs from her latest album Love Is The Way. From beginning her career singing in folk clubs in Irvine, Ayrshire, she came to public attention with the post-punk band The Gang of Four and harmonised with the likes of Annie Lennox, The Waterboys and Billy McKenzie, before gaining greater success in 1988 with the band Fairground Attraction, the single Perfect and the triple platinum album The First Of A Million Kisses. She went on to release five solo albums, and classic singles such as Patience of Angels and the cover of Gene Pitney’s Town Without Pity. From the traditional to the contemporary, Eddi brings to joyous life all forms of song with her rare blend of meltingly true vocals and towering romanticism.

Seth Lakeman
26 May 7:30 PM
Already a huge star on the live music circuit and a firm favourite with Buxton audiences, Seth Lakeman’s career continues to go from strength to strength. His first album, The Punch Bowl, gave way to the groundbreaking Kitty Jay, which was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and established him as a new voice in British music, using acoustic instruments right through his ‘unplugged’ quartet but fusing that raw, furious and energetic sound with an intense vocal imagery and style which evokes influences as diverse as Joe Strummer, Jeff Buckley, The Streets and Martin Carthy. His album, Freedom Fields won him Best Album and Folk Singer of the Year at the 2007 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and has been followed by another unforgettable collection, Poor Man’s Heaven.
