The Pirates of Penzance - Langley Park

29 July 7:30 PM

The Gilbert & Sullivan Youth Festival
The company is drawn from three Bromley schools: Langley Park Girls, Ravens Wood and Langley Park Boys. This will be our second collaboration with West Wickham Operatic Society, the first being Les Miserables School Edition in July 2008 – for which a temporary 500-seat theatre was constructed in the grounds of Langley Park Girls School for 6 sell-out performances. The project was an unforgettable experience for all those involved (students, staff, WWOS members); many new friendships were formed and dreams realised.
WWOS is a musical theatre company that performs twice a year at the Churchill Theatre in bromley. Whilst the company specialises in productions such as The Producers and The Full Monty, the roots of the society are in the Savoy operas and the operettas of Ofenbach and Lehar.
John Hargreaves is head of music at Langley Park Girls School and Kevin Gauntlett is the Director of WWOS. They have worked together on many shows for WWOS, the being the Broadway version of Pirates. They are back together for what is sure to be an exciting reunion in Buxton. Read more about this event … or

HMS Pinafore - Fusion Theatre, Northern Ireland

30 July 7:30 PM

The Gilbert & Sullivan Youth Festival
Fusion Theatre is based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, and was formed in 2000. Since then, they have taken part (twice) in the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera, and as members of the Association of Irish Musical Societies, have won various awards in the lower tier, resulting in their elevation to the upper tier of all-Ireland membership (along with Belfast Operatic Co, New Lyric Operatic Co and St Agnes Choral Society) as the only youth group in that tier! Quite a challenge!
Past productions include Pirates of Penzance (Broadway version) for which they were nominated for Best Director, Best Choreography, Best Supporting Actress, Best Female Voice and Best Overall show by AIMS – and won Best Director. The same production won the NODA Regional Award.
An earlier production of Jesus Christ Superstar won Best Director, Best Male Voice, and spirit of AIMS awards from AIMS, and also Best Director and Best Male Voice from the Waterford International Festival Of Light Opera.
Fusion Theatre have a twin ethos of high artistic standards, and “includion”. Their membership reflects the community both in terms of cultural identity, socio-economic background, perceived religious affiliation, and ability/disability. Read more about this event … or
