The sleepy fishing-village of Anstruther, in Scotland’s East Neuk of Fife, is home to The Fence Collective – a loose-knit amalgam of singer-songwriters, led by King Creosote (aka Kenny Anderson, whose work has been described as ‘the most sublime Scottish folk songwriting since Donovan’), alongside HMS Ginafore (singer-songwriter Jenny Casino), accoustric-country singer Pip Dylan and bass player Uncle Beesley. King Creosote started out as an accordion player, deeply intrigued by the manner in which Dexy’s Midnight Runners used traditional instruments such as his, ‘but not in a folk way’. Since then he has expanded his reach, assuming guises ranging from the canny indie rocker to the Highland balladeer.
