Theatreworks, the company which brought you ‘an enchanting revisiting of The Railway Children’ – (Plymouth Extra), returns to the Opera House with another delightful family drama, Charlotte’s Web.
This much-loved EB White story of the extraordinary friendship between Wilbur, a spring pig and Charlotte, a self-sacrificing spider, is woven with life-size puppetry, music and dance. Set on an American farm during the 1950s, it tells the tale of a cute-faced runt who is rescued from death, fed with warm milk from a baby bottle and loved to distraction by a little girl named Fern. Eventually Wilbur grows too big for the dolly pram and is sent to live in a hutch under the apple tree until uncle Homer buys him. He soon begins his new life in the barn cellar and has some great adventures with fellow animals. However, his happiness is shattered when he learns that he could be made into sausages! But don’t worry – his gentle and clever friend Charlotte is hatching a plan. Join us on the farm and find out how Wilbur is saved by this quite remarkable spider!
