Buxton Opera House Celebrates The Year Of The Volunteer
12 September 2005
Buxton Opera House is celebrating the Year Of The Volunteer with Theatre visits to other venues for it’s valuable team of 120 volunteers. 4 regional theatres and a concert hall have generously donated tickets for a range of performances for the Opera House’s volunteers to enjoy.
The volunteers will have a choice of visiting The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield for a preview performance of Much Ado About Nothing or Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester for Harvey – an American Christmas play. The Lowry has donated tickets for the renowned Rambert Dance Company and Regent Theatre in Stoke has offered tickets for the dance sensation Stomp. Volunteers will also have the chance to enjoy a performance by the world famous Cantonese concert pianist Lang Lang.
Michael Williams the Chairman of the High Peak Theatre Trust said “We are immensely grateful to our volunteers who regularly give up their time to help ensure the smooth running of the theatre. I hope they enjoy their richly deserved theatre visits.”
Early in 2004 the Government designated 2005 as the Year of the Volunteer. The initiative aims to recognise the work of the country’s 17 million formal volunteers, who contribute billions to the economy – and make an immeasurable contribution to those they help. Buxton Opera House has received a plaque, which recognise the contribution of Buxton Opera House’s volunteers from The Year of The Volunteer organisation. Only 650 plaques have been presented across the country.
If you would like to know more about becoming a volunteer at Buxton Opera House, please contact the House Manager on 01298 72050 or email housemanager@boh.org.uk.
