New Brochure arrives

Buxton Opera House has just announced the released of its new Autumn & Winter What’s On Brochure, which runs from August 2010 to February 2011. The 88-page brochure is the Opera House’s largest Autumn publication ever and includes not only the usual Opera House programme, but also the first ever season of events in the new Pavilion Arts Centre, starting with Buxton Opera House’s own co-production (with Channel Theatre), Laurel & Hardy.

Other shows taking place in The Pavilion Arts Centre include Room on the Broom, a play adapted from the best selling children’s story book by Julia Scheffler and the Opera House’s very own youth production company will perform their play, Arabian Nights… and Days. There will also be a Family Fun Day for families to engage in lots of arts and crafts and storytelling, as well as having a look at the new Arts Centre. Other events during the opening season will include music from Buxton’s local artists- Bla Bla Bla, Lucy Kaplansky, Brian Kennedy and much more.

As usual Buxton Opera House’s main-house programme is bursting full of colour, with music, dance, opera, ballet, children’s shows, comedy and drama all on the agenda. Music fans can look forward to Richard Hawley, The Damned, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Elkie Brooks, Lee Mead, Darius Campbell in The History of the Big Bands, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, The Texas Tenors, Martin Stephenson & The Daintees, Terry Lightfoot’s Jazzmen, Three Phantoms Gala Concert, The Johnny Cash Roadshow, Monsters of British Rock and many more.

Opera and classical music during the new season includes Falstaff, The Tideswell Male Voice Choir, highly acclaimed piano star – Ludovico Einaudi, Viva Verdi and A New year’s Viennese Strauss Gala. Dance fans can enjoy 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll with Rock Around The Clock, flamenco dancing with Jaleo, tango dancing with Tango Pasión and mesmerising Irish dancing with The Essence of Ireland. The Nutcracker will be performed by spell-binding Moscow Ballet and dance legend, Wayne Sleep will perform the story of his life in Precious Little Sleep. Bad boy of ballroom, Brendan Cole is also set to return to Buxton.

Drama set to ‘keep audiences on the edge of their seats’ includes Murdered To Death, Teechers, Oleanna, The Crucible, The Madness of George III, The Nightmare Room, 1984, Keeping Up Appearances, and this year’s family pantomime Aladdin. Comedy fans can look forward to side-splitting performances from Rhod Gilbert, Ross Noble, Ardal O’Hanlon, Jeremy Hardy, John Hegley, Brian Conley, Des O’Connor and others..

Children’s events include The Little Big Club, (CBeebies’) Chris & Pui, Alice and The White Rabbit (performed with shadow puppets) and the 4th A to Z Children & Teenagers’ Festival, which includes 100 performance and participatory events for young people. Other Events during the new season include an evening with the renowned spiritual medium, Colin Fry, and a lecture from the world-renowned climber Leo Houlding.
