Holiday Activities for Children & Teenagers
Buxton Opera House runs regular series of workshops and performances for children and teenagers during the spring, summer and autumn half-term breaks and the Easter holidays. Taking place in the theatre itself and at various venues around Buxton including St. John’s Church and Buxton Community School, these events are designed to provide entertaining and stimulating activities for young people outside of term-time. Recent highlights included No More Chocolate!, which took place from 8 to 30 April 2006 and included a performance of The Girl Who Lost Her Smile and workshops ranging from storytelling to Bollywood Dance; and SpringBoard! which ran from 27 May to 3 June 2006 featuring puppetry and drama workshops and a unique performance from Oily Cart Theatre Company especially created for young people with Complex Disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Working alongside partners such as Sure Start and The Residents of Fairfield Association, the Opera House aims to deliver a diverse programme of affordable events that offers a unique alternative to traditional holiday activities.
